We sometimes get questions from members and potential members about whether Woodside Lake is safe to swim in. The answer is ABSOLUTELY! This is one of the benefits of a spring fed lake.
Specifically, Woodside Lake is tested once a month in May through September (i.e. swimming months) for fecal coliform bacteria. According to the Virginia Department of Health (using EPA standards), the presence of fecal coliform bacteria should not exceed an average of 200 fecal coliforms MPN per 100 ml from two or more samples (see http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/hd/streams/recstate.htm). Woodside Lake was last tested on July 22, 2014. The results of the two collections were 18 and 1.8, for an average of 9.9, which is well below the recommended upper limit of 200 fecal coliforms MPN per 100 ml.
If the lake is ever unsafe to swim in, the Lake Association will notify members immediately and post that information on this website.
Woodside Lake is located at 8761 Brook Rd., McLean, VA 22102.
The 1st Woodside Lake potluck and cookout of the 2014 summer season will be this Saturday, June 14, starting at 7pm. Meet and mingle with your neighbors and fellow lake members, enjoy the natural beauty of our lake, and see the improvements being made to the lake area.
The Woodside Lake Association will provide drinks, condiments, and supplies (plates, napkins, and utensils). Please bring a dish to share and, if you choose, a meat of your choice to grill.
Anyone is welcome to attend – both lake members and non-members. And if you haven’t yet paid your 2014 membership dues, the potluck is a great opportunity to do so.
If you have any questions, please send an email to “woodsidelake AT gmail.com” or call 571-249-3319.
Hope to see you this Saturday!
Please join us Saturday, May 10th for the spring Woodside Lake clean-up. We’ll start things at 9am and will be working until early afternoon. Feel free to join us anytime. All volunteers are welcome!
We have a number of projects we’ll be working on, including: sanding and re-painting the picnic tables, installing new grills, cleaning off the docks, raking leaves, and weeding & raking the beach in preparation of new sand. We’re in the process of a big “spruce-up” before starting the summer season.
If you have kids who need to complete volunteer hours, participating in the lake clean-up is a great way to fulfill them.
And if you need to pay your 2014 dues, we’ll have the new Lake Association credit card swiper with us. Of course, old-fanshioned checks are also welcome 🙂
If you have any questions, you can call the Lake Association at 571-249-3319 or send an email to “woodsidelake AT gmail.com”
Hope to see you tomorrow!

The fall general membership meeting of the Woodside Lake Association will take place on Wednesday, October 30th beginning at 7pm. Please contact the Lake Association for specific information regarding the meeting location.
At the meeting we will be discussing important Lake issues such as security problems, expanding the membership area, the budget, as well as voting on 2014 board member positions.

All in the neighborhood are encouraged to come and help. We’ll be trimming branches, weeding the sand, picking up debris, etc. Please bring any tools, gloves, garbage bags, etc. that would be useful. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who made it to the final Woodside Lake Community Potluck and Cookout last Saturday, Sept. 7th. We had another great turnout and it seemed everyone enjoyed talking to their neighbors and meeting new people. We also had a few kids there who were definitely enjoying the beach and the lake!
