Fall Lake Clean-up – Saturday, Oct. 18th

Please join us this Saturday, Oct. 18th for our annual Woodside Lake Fall clean up. We start things off around 9:00am, but feel free to stop by to help anytime that morning. We’ll be picking up trash, raking leaves, clearing away brush, trimming branches, weeding the beach, and the like. If you can, please bring relevant equipment if possible, such as gardening gloves, rakes, trimmers, etc. And remember, the lake area stays clean mainly though the volunteer efforts of our members!

Lake Movie Night – Saturday, Sept. 20

Please join us next Saturday, Sept. 20 for a film screening under the starts and next to the lake. All are welcome to attend for free. The movie will start around 7:30pm. However, we’ll be doing the regular cookout and potluck beforehand starting at 6pm. So feel free to come just for the movie, or come earlier and bring a dish to share and meat to grill. The Woodside Lake Association will provide drinks, plates, napkins, plastic silverware, and condiments.

We will have the audience vote on the movie choice among three possibilities – Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, or Night at the Museum. All three are rated PG.

Make sure to bring something comfortable to sit on – such as a blanket or folding chairs. Also, remember is can get a little cooler after dark in September, so bring something to keep you warm.

Hope to see everyone this Saturday at movie night!

Tuesday, Aug. 19 – Potluck/Cookout and Stand Up Paddleboarding

Please join us next Tuesday, August 19th for our monthly potluck and cookout at Woodside Lake. We’ll start things off around 6pm, but feel free to join us at any time before the sun goes down. As usual, the Lake Association will provide drinks, supplies, and condiments. Please bring a dish to share and, if you prefer, meat to grill.

Also, we’ll have free Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) available to any interested members on Tuesday night. So come ready to try out SUP or just to watch others enjoying themselves paddling on the lake.

Hope to see everyone on Tuesday night at Woodside Lake!

Woodside Lake is safe to swim in. It’s tested every month.

We sometimes get questions from members and potential members about whether Woodside Lake is safe to swim in. The answer is ABSOLUTELY! This is one of the benefits of a spring fed lake.

Specifically, Woodside Lake is tested once a month in May through September (i.e. swimming months) for fecal coliform bacteria. According to the Virginia Department of Health (using EPA standards), the presence of fecal coliform bacteria should not exceed an average of 200 fecal coliforms MPN per 100 ml from two or more samples (see http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/hd/streams/recstate.htm). Woodside Lake was last tested on July 22, 2014. The results of the two collections were 18 and 1.8, for an average of 9.9, which is well below the recommended upper limit of 200 fecal coliforms MPN per 100 ml.

If the lake is ever unsafe to swim in, the Lake Association will notify members immediately and post that information on this website.
